Kampong Cham is a city on the Mekong river in southeastern Cambodia. It’s known as its French colonial buildings, about 124Km from northeast Phnom Penh, two and half hours driving. Phnom Srey Phnom Bros is located at Kro La Commune, 7Km distances from Kampong Cham Province.
The pagoda of Phnom Bros has official name called [Wat Sovankiri Rotanak], both Phnom Srey and Phnom Bros is standing close to each other. It has the rich regions and histories there, the monks and nuns are living there is called [Kot].
It was the story to tell, before women had to propose to the men and it became the culture in the country, but some women were not happy with this arrangement, so they wanted to change it, one day women found out a trick to make the men come to propose them. All those women came up for a meeting and asked men to contest with them, who won the competition would get the first step to propose, it meant if women won this, men have to propose women, but if men won, women have to do the same way too.
Both were working hard digging the soil to build the mountain, men thought it was such as easy thing for them because they are stronger than women, finally, they lost by women’s tricks. Their competition is to build the mountain till the sunrise, women hung a lantern up on the tree, men saw the light of the lantern and they supposed it was the morning star then they all turned to sleep. When the morning came women’s, mountain is higher than men’s mountain.
There are saying men use power and energy when women use only brain, men lost the competition so they have to propose women from now on and our culture that women propose men was stopped from that time.
I was driving more than 2 hours to see that mountain has known as the popular one in town, the views are stunning, but one thing I have noticed there were a lot of monkeys there and they are so nasty, they tried to grab our foods and drinks, they even stared at us with their angry face, was so scary to me. We did not want to fight with them, so just sharing them some fruits and drink, let enjoy together.
