Hongkong is the modern city also claimed as the most expensive city in the world. HK doesn’t belong to the backpacker coz you cannot find the street food or 2USD meals. It’s hard for the budget traveler. I was not yet the backpacker since 2012 I was the tourist travel with my own pocket. I love HK but I couldn’t afford for the expenses.
People is saying if you don’t know then ask, I make the mistake again in HK. I and my group of friends we were looking for dinner; one restaurant was not that far from our hostel. So we decided to have meal there, I sat down and the menu on table I didn’t notice or asked the price from the service, because at that time we were all starving. Just have the quick order food without asking the price. I was the leader so what I ordered they ate, I was assumed that in HK is very modern and big one meats [Pork, Chicken, Beef, Duck] should be more expensive than vegetable so I had ordered many vegetable dishes, as my understanding vegetable was cheaper so I could save some money for transportation or attractive entrance fee, surrounding people keep eyes on us, it looks weird why they stare like that and we didn’t care just cleaned off our food. Food were gone into our stomach bills was came out I was choked while drinking water. What’s the hell! It was almost 100USD bill are you kidding me, I just ordered vegetables no meats come on, could you check the bill again lady? She said, this was the right bill you had to pay, I replied you scam me, how could it expensive like this just the vegetable dishes, she responded oh madam you don’t know HK cannot grow vegetables coz there is no land, we imported all the vegetables from outside and meats here is cheaper than. I was so headache and almost collapsed down from the chair, that’s why people here staring at us like the weird one, because they know what’s going on the bill.
From this experience taught me always asking price before I have food, people has learnt from the experience. I just feel I was the dummy at that time but I don’t blame myself it was the lesson to learn. Never assume on anything if you don’t know or not sure about something ask and figure thing out. I share this experience to you, coz I don’t want you to order vegetables like what I did. Every traveling stop has its own story to tell.
